Dana Leon-Palma “DAY” is a New York-Chicana interdisciplinary artist focused on UV-reactive Blacklight paintings and installations centering around esoteric/shamanic traditions and alchemical transformation.

Inspired by Dante’s Inferno and chaos theory, her work reveals hidden energies beneath the visible eye by centering the subconscious body through trauma, memory, reflection and spirituality within her practice.

PAST EXHIBITS

  • 361 Stagg St/ Rooftop Installation, Brooklyn, NY

Dana’s debut public exhibition was part of a larger collaborative pop-up at an artist-run space in Brooklyn. Alongside her husband and creative director, Jeohsua V. Palma, the duo transformed the rooftop into an improvised gallery.

Their spontaneous, site-specific installation launched Leon’s exploration of mixed media in unconventional settings, emphasizing the power of grassroots, community-based art.

  • Gary Tatintsian Gallery New York, NY

A pivotal moment in Leon’s career, The MELTED! The collection marked her formal entrance into gallery presentation. This body of work merged digital media, sculpture, and painting, drawing inspiration from Van Gogh, Pop Art, and the textures of New York City.

The collection explores art’s ability to provoke, disrupt, and ignite social imagination, embodying her belief in art as a transformative force.

  • Undisclosed Industrial Space, Yonkers, NY

As a core member of The Gunhill Six, Dana Leon participated in a large-scale guerrilla-style installation held in an abandoned factory in Yonkers.

Leon’s UV-reactive, pointillist-infused contribution responded to the building’s decaying textures and atmospheric light, pushing the boundaries of installation art and amplifying themes of resilience, transformation, and resistance.

  • @Bronxlandia, Bronx, NY

Presented in partnership with Bronxlandia and The Point CDC, Dancers Every Night was a vibrant, public-facing art experience curated by The Gunhill Six.

“Next Up: Twisted Vines” presents 25 artists working across drawing, installation, painting, printmaking, and sculpture, ranging from exuberant pop culture paintings to carefully etched prints, sharply rendered pencil drawings, and mother-of-pearl inlays. Although these approximately 80 artworks cover vast ground conceptually and visually, they primarily focus on establishing peace with oneself, nature, and society. Through lived experiences and cultural traditions, these multinational artists draw on their communities' histories as a rich source of inspiration, and their own perspectives of the ongoing lineages.

This exhibition is part of SVA's second annual “Next Up” exhibition series, which includes three shows across three galleries and showcases the work of 52 emerging student artists, selected by a jury of notable alumni.
